Description

Broad-Spectrum Antibacterial: Chloramphenicol capsules are a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, anaerobes, rickettsiae, spirochetes, and chlamydiae.
  • Treatment of Severe Infections: Primarily used to treat severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as typhoid fever, bacterial meningitis, pneumonia, and sepsis.
  • Ocular and Otic Infections: Also used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes and ears.
  • Other Uses: Chloramphenicol capsules can be used to prevent and treat certain specific infections, such as cholera and plague.
  • Adult Dosage:
    • General Infections: The usual dose is 50 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 doses, every 6 hours.
    • Severe Infections: For severe infections like bacterial meningitis or sepsis, the dose may be increased to 100 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 doses, but should be reduced to a lower dose as soon as possible.
    • Patients with Liver or Kidney Impairment: Dose adjustments are necessary to avoid drug accumulation in the body.
  • Pediatric Dosage:
    • General Infections: The usual dose is 50 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 doses, every 6 hours.
    • Newborns: The total dose is 25 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 doses, every 6 hours.
  • Administration Tips:
    • Take on an Empty Stomach: It is recommended to take the capsules 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal to ensure optimal absorption.
    • Complete the Course: Even if symptoms improve, the full course of treatment should be completed to ensure the infection is completely eradicated.
  • Sealed Storage: Keep the capsules sealed to prevent moisture.
  • Cool and Dry Place: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Out of Reach of Children: Ensure the medication is stored in a place that is not accessible to children.
