Metronidazole Tablets - Usage & Dosage GuidelinesBacterial infections (anaerobic):
Mild/Moderate: 250-500 mg every 8 hours (7-10 days)
Severe: 500-750 mg every 8 hours (IV transition to oral)
Protozoal infections:
Amebiasis: 500-750 mg 3 times daily (7-10 days)
Trichomoniasis: 2 g single dose or 500 mg twice daily (7 days)
Bacterial vaginosis:
500 mg twice daily (7 days) or 2 g single dose
H. pylori eradication: 400-500 mg 2-3 times daily (7-14 days, combined therapy)
Anaerobic infections: 7.5 mg/kg every 8 hours (max 4 g/day)
Amebiasis: 35-50 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses (7-10 days)
Take with food to reduce GI upset
Swallow whole (do not crush/chew, unless dispersible tablet)
Complete full course even if symptoms improve
Avoid alcohol (causes disulfiram-like reaction: nausea/vomiting, flushing)
Renal impairment: No dose adjustment needed (but monitor)
Hepatic impairment: Reduce dose by 50% in severe cirrhosis
Elderly: Use lower end of dosing range
