Description


1. Action
Anti-emetic
: Blocks dopamine D2 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ), preventing nausea/vomiting.

Prokinetic: Enhances gastric emptying by stimulating upper GI motility.
2. Indications
Postoperative/chemotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting
Gastroparesis
 (e.g., diabetic)
GERD (severe reflux unresponsive to other therapy)

3. Dosage & Administration

Administration Notes:

  • IV push: Dilute & inject slowly over 1-2min (rapid injection may cause hypotension).

      IM: Deep injection into large muscle.

4. Contraindications

GI obstruction/perforation
 (stimulates motility)
Pheochromocytoma (risk of hypertensive crisis)
 
Epilepsy/Parkinson's disease (lowers seizure threshold)

5. Adverse Effects

 Common: Restlessness, drowsiness, diarrhea
 
Serious: Tardive dyskinesia (with long-term use), neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

6. Drug Interactions 

 CNS depressants (e.g., opioids): ↑ Sedation risk.
 
Serotonergic drugs: ↑ Serotonin syndrome risk.

7. Storage Conditions 

Unopened: Below 25°C, protect from light.
Opened vials: Discard immediately (single-use only).
Do not freeze (causes precipitation).
