Mots-c (Mitochondrial-derived peptide) is a 16-amino acid short peptide derived from mitochondrial 12S rRNA, with CAS number 1627580-64-6. Its core functions include activating the AMPK pathway, improving insulin sensitivity, regulating energy metabolism and mitochondrial homeostasis, and it has potential application value in the fields of metabolic diseases, liver diseases, tumors, etc
Mechanisms and physiological functionsCore metabolic regulation pathways: Inhibiting folic acid circulation, promoting AICAR generation to activate AMPK, upregulating GLUT4 to promote glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, enhancing fatty acid oxidation, improving insulin sensitivity, and alleviating obesity and insulin resistance.
2. Mitochondria and nuclear signaling: Translocation into the nucleus during metabolic stress, binding with NRF2 to regulate antioxidant and metabolism-related nuclear genes; Promote mitochondrial fusion, maintain mitochondrial dynamic homeostasis, protect liver function and inhibit HBV replication.
3. Other potential functions: Inhibit the proliferation and migration of tumor cells (such as ovarian cancer and liver cancer), improve bone metabolism, reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, enhance exercise capacity and delay metabolic decline related to aging.
Safety and precautions
Adverse reactions: No obvious systemic toxicity was observed in animal experiments. High doses may cause mild injection site reactions and occasional transient fluctuations in blood sugar.
Contraindications and caution: Prohibited for those allergic to polypeptides. Pregnant women/lactating women, patients with diabetes, and those with impaired liver or kidney function should use with caution (data limited).
Drug interactions: When used in combination with metformin and AMPK activators, it may enhance metabolic effects, and blood glucose monitoring is required. When used in combination with chemotherapy drugs, the mutual effects need to be evaluated.
